This week’s readings were a real eye opener for me regarding teaching writing. Murray’s conference approach to teaching writing is sort of the ideal. Students write, teachers ask questions, students write some, etc. Although i was skeptical at first that it could be done this way in a high school setting i think Leslie’s experience this week with her students showed that it can be done.
I think i learned a lot about teaching just by reading Laura’s and Leslie’s posts. They are both in a position to implement theories we read about with their own students and report back on their effectiveness. In addition, Leslie is teaching older students who have a lot of writing assignments to do so she has the ability to offer informed opinions about what happens in high school writing classes.
