The main thought I had while reading this piece was remembering how Mr. Winner would ask me what I wanted and expected in return from students when designing assignments. He was focusing on the quality of the work I got back mostly. He would say that the more I took designing the assignment seriously the more the students would as well. This follows with allowing students to demonstrate knowledge in different manners. He always went with giving each student the same test because he said there was no way to equate one assessment with another. Like comparing apples to oranges in his mind.
