Biography of my father

In grade school we had to write a biography of someone close to us, like a parent or grandparent. I chose my father.

Richard ——- ——– was born on July 14, 1943 in Canonsburg hospital. Richard, his parents, Attilio and Adeline, and his seven brothers and sisters, Bob, Dominic, Clara, Julianne, Columbia, Mary, and Norma, lived in Cecil, PA for seven years before moving to Carnegie, PA.

Rich went to school in the Carnegie School District (now Carlynton) where his favorite classes were math, study hall and his favorite teachers were Mr. Zaney and Mr. Swentoski. His favorite school activities were pep rallies and dances and weightlifting.

After graduating, he entered Robert Morris College majoring in Accounting. He had to quit after a year and a half because his father died. He got part time jobs working in bakeries and as a bartender before landing a job with Allegheny Airlines (USAir).

He was still living in Carnegie when he met a farm girl from South View named Bettie — —–. On January 9, 1966 he made her Bettie — ——–. Their first child, Melissa —, came on July 12, 1967. Their second child, James, came on February 4, 1967. Their last child, Michael, came on Nov 12, 1974.

Richard is 5’11”, 190 lbs, he has black eyes and hair. He has been working for USAir for the past nineteen years and has been married for seventeen years. He is of the Christian religion and his ancestors are from Italy. His philosophy is that we can control our own destiny and anything brought upon us is the result of something that we did, excluding natural disasters. He thinks education is like beautiful women, you just can’t enough of either.

His favorite sportsman and world leaders are Ted “Big Klu” Kluzowski, Rocky Marciano, Joe DiMaggio, Julius Caesar, and FDR. His favorite actors and actresses are Tony Curtis, Orson Wells, Victor Mature, Linda Evans, Stephanie Powers, and Julie Christie. He would like to eat steak, fries, and salad with Italian dressing at Portafino’s at his favorite vacation spot, West Palm Beach, Florida. His favorite rock group is the Eagles and song, Hotel California. His hobbies are billiards and weightlifting. He likes to read biographies and autobiographies and Physical Fitness books. He looks at Muscle & Fitness books and he makes a habit of smoking cigars. He thinks Vietnam is one of the worst disasters ever because it didn’t have the backing and support that WWI – WWII did. He also thinks Pearl Harbor is one because of the surprise element and lack of readiness. He could solve inflation by keep wage increases in line with prices by lowering taxes and interest rates. He could solve unemployment by lowering the retirement age that would create more jobs. He could solve nuclear war by getting all the countries together and agree to stop making nuclear weapons.

Richard ——- ——– was born on July 14, 1943 (died September 19, 2012) in Canonsburg hospital. Richard, his parents, Attilio and Adeline (after having three or four of their kids fled Italy to get away from Mussolini, I never met either, Attilio died several years before my birth and I was one year old when Adeline died), and his seven brothers and sisters, Bob (owned a hardware store, told jokes, farted, and had a Civil War era cannon that he fired on holidays and special occasions), Dominic (worked in mills and on the railroad, was a part of organized crime, murdered puppies and kittens by putting them in garbage bags and throwing them in Chartiers Creek (pronounced ‘crick’), Clara (never worked, had two kids), Julianne (nicknamed ‘Toots,’ never worked, had two kids, one who was born with cerebral palsy, played the lottery daily and won frequently), Columbia (my godmother, never worked, had two kids), Mary (the oldest), and Norma (my favorite, owned a diner where we’d go for ice cream, would drive around and show off by letting go of the wheel, died of natural causes, possibly suicide, by laying down on the tracks, she was depressed over having breast cancer, this happened when I was in 4th or 5th grade and was very traumatic), lived in Cecil, PA for seven years before moving to Carnegie (Car-nay-gee), PA.

Rich went to school in the Carnegie School District (now Carlynton) where his favorite classes were math, study hall (?) and his favorite teachers were Mr. Zaney and Mr. Swentoski. His favorite school activities were pep rallies and dances (he was an award winning dancer, danced on tv, met my mother while dancing) and weightlifting (lifted weights his whole life, was famous for his large arms).

After graduating, he entered Robert Morris College majoring in Accounting. He had to quit after a year and a half because his father died. He got part time jobs working in bakeries and as a bartender before landing a job with Allegheny Airlines (USAir) (he worked for USAir until his retirement).

He was still living in Carnegie when he met a farm girl (a rural area, a coal mining town, they kept chickens and had milk cows) from South View named Bettie — —–. On January 9, 1966 (actually 1967, my mother was pregnant with my sister at the time) he made her Bettie — ——–. Their first child, Melissa — (who, as far as I know, was conceived in a car), came on July 12, 1967. Their second child, James, came on February 4, 1969. Their last child, Michael, came on Nov 12, 1974.

Richard is 5’11”, 190 lbs, he has black eyes and hair. He has been working for USAir for the past nineteen years and has been married for seventeen years (as I wrote this in grade school, probably the 6th grade in 1980-1981 these numbers are off). He is of the Christian religion and his ancestors are from Italy. His philosophy is that we can control our own destiny and anything brought upon us is the result of something that we did, excluding natural disasters. He thinks education is like beautiful women, you just can’t enough of either.

His favorite sportsman and world leaders are Ted “Big Klu” Kluzowski (Kluszewski, baseball player, hit home runs and had muscular arms), Rocky Marciano, Joe DiMaggio, Julius Caesar, and FDR. His favorite actors and actresses are Tony Curtis, Orson Wells, Victor Mature, Linda Evans, Stephanie Powers, and Julie Christie. He would like to eat steak, fries, and salad with Italian dressing at Portafino’s at his favorite vacation spot, West Palm Beach, Florida (we went there several times and ate at this restaurant. West Palm was a cool place for kids who liked going to the beach, getting ice from the ice dispensers, playing video games in the hotel’s arcade. Our last trip was in 1984. I remember walking with my mother through the tourist district and hearing the theme from the movie ‘Beat Street’ playing on a boombox. Portafino’s closed in 2010.). His favorite rock group is the Eagles and song, Hotel California. His hobbies are billiards and weightlifting. He likes to read biographies and autobiographies (of mostly Mafia figures. I have most of the books) and Physical Fitness books. He could solve inflation by keep wage increases (real wages haven’t increased since the early 70s) in line with prices (this is called Wage Push Inflation, I’m not sure it would work)by lowering taxes and interest rates. He could solve unemployment by lowering the retirement age that would create more jobs. He could solve nuclear war by getting all the countries together and agree to stop making nuclear weapons.
