At 12,667 feet Borah Peak is the highest peak in Idaho. In the summer of1999 or 2000 I tried to climb or summit it. The temperature difference between the trailhead and the top is about sixty degrees. Shorts and t-shirt weather at the bottom and full winter gear at the top.
There’s no technical climbing involved. It can be hiked up. There is a trail that leads from the trailhead to the summit. The first several thousand feet are almost straight up then nearer to the top the trail gets rocky. Almost close to the top is a gap in the rocks that must be jumped across. This is where i chickened out and turned around.
Still a great day. Hiking outdoors, getting fresh air, being in the blazing sun. I somewhat regretted not trying again.
